Inspiration Session with Advocate Thuli Madonsela

The Accelerate Cape Town Inspiration Sessions are large networking events for young professionals with an inspiring speaker or speakers followed by a cocktail event and hosted by Allan Gray. They aim to address key needs expressed by young black professionals living in the Cape Town region:
- To meet their contemporaries and build networks with their peers and other aspirational professionals
- To find inspirational mentors, particularly senior black business leaders
- To be exposed to business leadership and opportunities through these networking sessions.

Advocate Thuli Madonsela
Thuli Madonsela was appointed as Public Protector SA by President Jacob Zuma on the recommendation of Parliament with effect from 15 October 2009. Her ability to speak truth to power and to address corruption in high places has been outstanding and, as a result, she was nominated as one of Times’ 100 Most Influential People 2014. Born in Johannesburg in 1962, Adv. Madonsela grew up in Soweto and then moved to Swaziland, from where her family originates. After graduating from the University of Swaziland, she returned to South Africa to further her studies and qualified with an LLB in 1990.
One of the 11 Technical Experts that assisted the Constitutional Assembly in drafting South Africa’s new Constitution, Adv. Madonsela is a human rights lawyer, equality expert, constitutional analyst and policy specialist. She is the co-architect of the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act, the Employment Equity Act and Local Government Transition Act and played a central role in the drafting of the policy framework that formed the basis of the Ministry for Women, Children and Disability Affairs. Adv. Madonsela has been awarded 3 Doctor of Laws degrees, LL.D. (Honoris causa) from Fort Hare (2013), Stellenbosch (2015) and Rhodes (2015) universities as well as Transparency International’s Integrity Award 2014.
