ACT Now 4 September 2026

Accelerate Cape Town CEO, Ryan Ravens

FROM THE CEO, CONTINUED

Our newsletter used to arrive when we had enough to say, and it has never been our practice to shout every activity or achievement from the rooftops. That was a knowledge-economy habit: accumulate, then publish. But information is no longer scarce; the capacity to sort what matters from what merely happened is.

So each week, you’ll get the developments that matter for the Western Cape economy, why they matter, and where ACT is acting on your behalf. Five minutes, once a week, nothing in it you didn’t need.

The Cost of Standing Still

For years, business leaders were told that change was coming. Today, change is no longer coming, it has arrived.

Artificial intelligence is reshaping how organisations operate. Global trade patterns are shifting. Skills requirements are evolving faster than many education systems can keep pace. The question facing leaders is no longer whether change will happen, but whether their organisations are moving fast enough to remain relevant.

What concerns me is that too many conversations are still focused on protecting what exists, rather than building what comes next.

The regions and economies that succeed over the next decade will not necessarily be those with the most resources. They will be those that adapt fastest, collaborate most effectively, and are willing to make bold decisions in the face of uncertainty.

For the Western Cape, the opportunity is significant. We have the talent, innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, and leadership needed to compete on a global stage. The challenge is ensuring we convert that potential into meaningful growth, investment, jobs, and impact.

Standing still is not a strategy. The future will belong to those willing to think differently, act decisively, and work together to shape what comes next.

FOCUS ISSUE

AI: The Leadership Question Isn’t Technology. It’s Readiness.

Artificial intelligence is rapidly moving from experimentation to implementation. While much of the conversation focuses on tools and technology, the real challenge facing organisations is readiness.

Are leaders equipped to make informed decisions about AI adoption? Do organisations have the governance frameworks, skills, and culture needed to unlock value while managing risk?

Over the coming weeks, ACT will explore how AI is reshaping productivity, leadership, skills development, and competitiveness and what this means for business in the Western Cape.

🤖 Question for members: Where is your organisation currently on its AI journey?

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Strengthening the Network

As a cornerstone of Cape Town’s events and business tourism economy, the CTICC has played a defining role in bringing conferences, exhibitions and major gatherings to the city — drawing investment, delegates and international attention to the Western Cape. Their inclusion strengthens ACT’s ability to convene diverse perspectives and facilitate meaningful collaboration between business, government and industry, contributing to regional economic development and national competitiveness.

As ACT enters its next chapter, welcoming an organisation of the CTICC’s stature reflects the growing recognition that strong economies are built through connected leadership, shared insight and collective action.

🤝 We look forward to the contributions and perspectives they will bring to the network.

And to mark the occasion, the CTICC has extended a special offering exclusively to ACT members for bookings in November and December 2026.

Experience the CTICC – one of Africa’s leading convention centres in the heart of Cape Town. A five-star graded, world-class venue offering flexible spaces for meetings, conferences and corporate events, supported by professional event expertise and an award-winning culinary team. With convenient on-site parking and easy access to Cape Town’s business district, hotels and attractions, the CTICC provides a premium setting for corporate events of varying scale and format.

Accelerate Cape Town members can take advantage of this exclusive CTICC offering, valid for events held in November and December 2026. Please click here for full details and booking information.
