AI, Robotics and Automation

November 3, 2017 @ 7:30 am - 10:00 am

The World Economic Forum states that by 2025, 30% of corporate audits will be performed by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and additional research shows that Digital Transformation is now a priority for most business leaders. From intelligent assistants, Siri and Alexa, to IBM’s Watson for oncology – whose successful diagnosis rate for lung cancer is 90% compared to 50% from human doctors – Industry 4.0 is no longer a ‘future trend’, but rather the ‘here-and-now’. Emerging technologies such as IoT, AI, machine learning, advanced robotics and 3D printing are being adopted in the workplace and through machine utilisation/application, are creating data-driven efficiencies and transforming businesses across the globe.

However, it is important to note that these contributing digital technologies are replacing a host of functions currently performed by humans. With machines starting to emulate humans (AI) and adapt their behaviour based on external stimuli (machine learning), the question beckons, what will be the impact on the future of human work and employment, especially in developing countries, and how will AI and machine learning be regulated?

Join us as we hear from Dr Jacques Ludik, Founder and President of Machine Intelligence Institute of Africa (MIIA), who will unpack what the impact of Ai and machine learning – both current use and future scenarios – is both globally and locally, showcase the applications of these technologies in a corporate context and explain what their impact on employment in SA will be and what skills we need to be developing for the future.
