Transport issues in Cape Town are starting to impact on business productivity. With our continued population growth of 2 – 3% every year and various issues within the transport infrastructure, congestion and delays are a daily frustration. According to MEC for Transport and Public Works, Donald Grant, the peak hour has increased from 2 to 4 hours and private car trips to the CBD still outnumber public transport and non-motorised transport trips by 61% to 39% which is not sustainable.
Following on from our Improving Commuter Productivity in the Cape event in collaboration with Wesgro, we are hosting a breakfast to debate the main concerns with the key transport authorities within the City: Transport for Cape Town, PRASA/Metrorail and Transnet. Transnet owns the rail infrastructure north of Durbanville and has land in the port such as Duncan Road which could ease congestion. Fortunately, Mayor Patricia de Lille recently announced upgrades in the foreshore that will ease congestion and we will hear more about these plans.
Join our panel discussion where you can raise your concerns to find solutions to our transport issues. We will be joined by Brett Herron, Mayoral Committee Member for Transport at City of Cape Town; Richard Walker, Regional Manager at PRASA; Sipho Nzuza, Port Manager at Transnet; and Yolisa Mashilwane, Public Policy Head at Uber SA.
